One trick that you can use to your advantage is what time of day to go fishing at. I find that if you go fishing at a certain time of day you will get better results.
The best times of the day to go fishing are in the early morning or late in the evening. I find that the fish tend to bite the most at these times.
If you happen to go fishing during the afternoon you may find that the fish will not bite as much at this time. I think this is because they do not feed during midday that much.
